Dude ranch

When college coeds come of age in Chicago, a bar crawl along the 2200 block of Lincoln Avenue seems to be an essential rite-of-passage. The cacophony of brewpubs, trendy lounges, sports bars and late-night eateries mandatory to closing a night out, draw twentysomethings from across the city.

Where to begin this most ancient of rituals? The dual-level Lion Head Pub and Apartment at 2251 N Lincoln Ave give patrons two bars in one. On the first floor the English-style pub has an array of brewskies to appease the thirstiest of beer-bellied frat boys. Above, the Apartment stays true to its name with recliners, beds, a fireplace and even a Playstation, for that college pad-feel.

For those looking to catch a game, Kendall’s Bar at 2263 N Lincoln Ave features seven 10-foot projection screens, broadcasting from 16 satellite and cable providers, no less. Kendall’s serves the game-day staples - nachos, pizzas, chicken wings, etc. But be warned, if it’s a Big 10 football or basketball game you’re after, get there early - the place fills up fast.

If you’re ready to participate in dancing and other ancient mating practises, Blu, 2247 N Lincoln Ave, spins dance and hip hop tunes until 4 a.m. on Thursdays and Fridays and 5 a.m. on Saturdays. The club’s website openly brags that, “No one goes home alone at Blu!”

But first things first. No frat party is complete without a late-night food run. Burrito Joint #2, 2221 N Lincoln Ave, is open until 5 a.m. Thursday thru Saturday and 3 a.m. the rest of the week, while Pizza Inc., 2245 N Lincoln Ave, serves up piping pies until 4:30 a.m. on Fridays and 5:30 a.m. on Saturdays.
